The Science of Business:
By Dr. Martin Oliver
There are some thoughts, some ideas, some facts, some information that is useful in helping me gain and keep the right perspective on the science of doing business each and every day, and every night, over a long period of time.
I want to always remember that in this 5 physical sense world of matter, liquids, and gases, molecules, protons, neutrons, electrons, magnetic attractive forces, and gravity, there are something’s that are going to be here for a while and other things that are not destined to last too long. The presence and reality of those short-lived situations should trigger an awakening. Here are a few things to think-awake about:
Tectonic plates upon which we live, ranging from 3 miles to 30+ miles in thickness, moving gently on a sea of red-hot magma are going to last a while.
Wall Street’s latest high water mark for the Dow Jones Industrial Average… not going to last too long.
70%+ of this terrestrial ball being covered by water moved by the gravitational pull of the moon and our spinning orbit, that could be here for a while.
The US Federal Reserve’s 0% interest rate for loans to banks… not too long
100 billion brain cells in each of us… they could last quite a while.
The latest tend in iPhones …by next year, maybe a whole new product?
The orbit of the Sun, 93,000,000 miles away… Yep, that could be longer term.
The latest trends in suits, shoes, motorcycles, houses, automobiles, makeup and beer… those can definitely change in a short amount of time.
Cells being used in the forming of tissue, tissue combining to form organs, organs forming systems, systems being used in unity to keep us alive physically ...120 yrs approximately.
Whether the Country of Greece will be bailed out by the European Federal Reserve, the World Bank, and the IFC? That could be really short term!
Well you get the point. Sometimes in business we lose sight of what is really important. Is profit important? Only if you want to keep the doors open, the lights on, and the employees in their desks.
But profit alone is obviously not the full answer. World history over 6,000 years testifies to that, with the hunger for dominance of landmasses, kingdoms, gold, silver, precious stones, man-power, cancer breakthroughs and Visa Cards.
What about the full destiny of each of our lives? Where does that fit in? What about life and life more abundantly giving joy that passes human understanding that feeds us internally? Once our basic necessities like air, water, food, shelter, and procreation are met, what about purpose, meaning, and the quest for the great 4 philosophical questions?
Who Am I?
Where Did I Come From?
Why Am I here?
Where Am I Going?
It is these more philosophical questions that serve as a foundation for the management consulting thinking and practice of Dr. Martin Oliver. Dr. Oliver, in the midst of his data search to assist you with change management, organizational development, financial analysis, business trend forecasting and strategic planning will always keep in mind these deeper questions.. His goal is to make certain that as you receive an accurate diagnosis of your situation, followed by solid practical business solutions, that then your result would be sustainable business and personnel transformation.
